When Molly asked me if I would be ok with shooting a home birth, I immediately knew I wanted that challenge! After having some hospital births under my belt, I wanted to embrace a different birth plan and style and see how I could capture that for her family. We talked several times about her plan for the house, kids, etc... and all of her calm, cool, collected approach was definitely on display the day of Marco's arrival. I walked into a smiley house full of cool, curated music playing throughout the home's speakers, candles burning and a beautifully calm and collected Molly just waiting on Mr. Marco to make his arrival.
Her husband Tony was a champ and never far away for back rubs, glasses of water, help with stretching, etc... her midwives were calm, professional, quiet and spoke in soft voices that oozed professionalism and confidence! After all of this, it was easy to say that I was probably the most nervous person in the room! We talked about where her other 3 kids were at that time (just hanging out playing with the neighbors!) and how her girlfriends made her an awesome banner with encouraging words of strength and positivity.
When it came time for the big event, Molly was relaxed and with a few pushes and soft, gentle encouragement from her husband and midwives, Marco made his appearance!
The midwives instantly turned into all business mode and were efficient in tending to not only Marco's needs but Molly's as well. Tony, who works in the medical field, got started on draining the cord blood for their cord blood banking plans and I stood back and just snapped away trying to take it all in.
The kids came home about an hour later and suffice to say they might have been THE most excited people in the room. They were so proud, and anxious and overwhelmed with emotion at meeting their new brother who they are certain to spoil to no end!
